An OFP is typically filed against a partner, family member, or some other person living in the home. It may be filed in the event that the petitioner believes that he or she is a victim of domestic abuse.
OFP may usually encompass the following restrictions against the accused:
- Protection for any harm or potential harm
- No contact is to be made with the petitioner
- Accused may not be allowed to live in the same home
- Custody and child support may be ordered
- Treatment and counseling may be required
